And if they get invited by some of the big names in the music biz as DISTURBED, KITTIE, A or STONE SOUR to be the support act of these top sellers it is another indication that something really special is evolving. And if last but not least the members of the main acts are curiously standing beside the stage, enjoying what they see instead of having beer and sandwiches backstage it proves that TAPE are already respected by their famous colleagues. It is a fact: it has become rare nowadays that a new band is enthusiastically welcomed by the fans and the media even before an official album release, that sold out venues go crazy (and not only applaud politely) although the audience has never heard a single song. It is pretty obvious that TAPE are not the product of some clever marketing expert. These five musicians went straight from their tiny rehearsal room to this country's stages and played loads of shows during the last two years, from dirty little venues to major open air festivals like Germany's "Rock am Ring" and "Rock im Park". The origins and histories of the band members could not be more different. Coming from the USA, Chile and Germany they met in the city of Hamburg, Germany. Their common ground is Rock 'n' Roll. Hard but also tender, packed with melodies, groovy, free of any stereotypes, unconventional. The goal that so many other bands fail to achieve is to write catchy songs that you never get tired of listening to. So the girl and the guys locked the door of their rehearsal room and came back with kick a** songs that combine heaviness with vocals that send a shiver down your spine. Songs that are only waiting to invade the charts. Dacia – easily recognized by the eye- and ear witnesses of TAPE's first live shows – is a vocal phenomenon. Sexy shouter and high class r&b-miracle in one. Her fellow band members perform on the highest level because they all had a musical life before TAPE came into existence. While Dacia has an impressive past as a singer and songwriter doing R&B, Gunnar has been the classical Metal guitarist. Hanz (guitar), Ike (bass) and Ole (drums) were part of other bands and projects, too. To be an outstanding musician you need to have the absolute will for artistic freedom and the corresponding "hard headedness" that does not break when trying to break through walls. The label EastWest was ready to guarantee that independence, so both sides decided to cooperate. "With EastWest we met people who from day one did not try to interfere and understand what we are all about" the band explains in summer 2003, only weeks before their debut album "#1" will be released. It was recorded in spring 2003 and already the production process shows the boundless and international concept of TAPE. "#1" has been produced in Sweden by Daniel Presley and was mixed in Belgium by Ronald Prent. "You guys know that there is no one out there, who does what you do, right?" they were frequently asked by the sound experts. Could there be a greater compliment for an artist?
