MORTAJAS were formed in 2020, in the city of Villa Alemana / Chile, with the purpose of doing Doom Metal in Spanish. The band’s line-up includes members of prominent Chilean doom acts like King Heavy, Mourners Lament and Mar de Grises.
Their debut album was released in January 2021 by the Peruvian label Gate of Horror, and later reissued for Europe by Rafchild Records (Germany). In 2022 the band released a split with the classic Doomsters of Anguish (Sweden) through the Romanian label Sun & Moon Records.
MORTAJAS’ new full-length, "Mortajas II", will be released on October 18th 2023 and contains five tracks of pure Doom Metal. The album features guest contributions from Juan Escobar of Wooden Veins / ex - Mar de Grises, who was in charge of the keyboards on the track "He Perdonado", and Carlos Cabezas, who is an active member of the most iconic Chilean band Los Jaivas. He created the arrangements for the "Bajo un Nuevo Sol" and brilliantly performed the quena, zampoña, trompe, trutruca, charango, percussions and voices.
For the promotion of their new release, MORTAJAS are working on their first European tour for November 2023, including two of the most important Doom festivals in Europe "Dutch Doom Days" and "Doom Over Viena" and some others exclusive gigs.
