In hoc Signo vinces
Angst

Info:

Swedish band ANGST was formed in 2002 by Characith in Norrköping, formerly running a music project called Ondske, (two demos). As Ondske, ANGST was a one-man band at that time. The band name was not taken from the German language, but from the english. There the originally German word stands for more than „normal“ fear. It stands for fear of live or panic fear.
Soon after the formation of ANGST Characith wrote a few songs, and in early 2003 he recruited Adimiron to handle the vocals. Adimiron got his confidence in doing a good performance as vocalist from a effectual guest appearance on the 2003 Setherial album “Endtime Divine”. And while he writes the lyrics for the band, Characith composes the music. Inspired by his interest in religious history and the occult, Adimiron´s lyrics´ topics are mostly based on Satanism, often describing total destruction, murder and genocide. The topics have nothing to do with politics - the band doesn´t care about that.

In the beginning of summer 2003, the four songs the “Divine Wrath” demo tape is consisting of had been created and were intended to be recorded with a real drummer. At the recording date the guy who was meant to play the drums unfortunately suffered from a knee injury. The demo was then recorded with a drum machine instead, because the band didn´t want to wait for the drummers´ recovery. The demo – lim-ited to 200 pieces and printed by Death Propaganda Records - was very well received by the scene and got some good reviews in various Magzines. It was released in November 2003. The vocals where recorded in Jens Rydén's (NAGLFAR) Dead Silent Studios.

The band today consists of four members. Besides Characith and Adimiron there are drummer Vrashtar – involved also in Sargantas Reign – and bassist Sorgh who replaced former bassist DD Executioner.
In September 2003 Angst got in contact with German label Black Attakk through Dark Fortress vocalist Azathoth. Black Attakk was very interested in signing Angst, and an alliance was formed in the start of 2004 for one album and options for one more. “In Hoc Signo Vinces” is the transitory climax of ANGST.

The music on „In Hoc Signo Vinces“ can be compared to that of their fellow country men Craft. ANGST breath the spirit of early 1990s Black Metal. ANGST don´t sound as monotonous as other genre representa-tives, but create instead a dark, cold, hypnotic atmosphere with their non uniform compositions which inevi-tably remind the listener of his deepest, biggest angst. A masterpiece of blackest music!
