Info:
Greek PENTHOS chose the daimon of grief, despair and sadness for their band’s name. Founded in the deepest pits of Athens in 2017 the horde have done their name justice by creating sinister Black Metal ever since. After their self-titled debut from 2022– their only output so far- the time has now come to unleash PENTHOS’ second full length album.
Thus, it`s with great pleasure that Darkness Shall Rise productions announces Erevos due for imminent release on various formats. Consisting of nine bleak reveries drenched in murky atmosphere, Erevos is an album which has traditional Black Metal written all over it. Regardless of the facts that PENTHOS hail from Greece and the album conceptually deals with dark aspects of Greek mythology Erevos doesn´t sound much Greek at all. Rather than sonically following in the footsteps of NECROMANTIA or ROTTING CHRIST, the quintet chose to create Black Metal in the Scandinavian vein. The cold, melancholic fast-paced riffs remind of the Finnish stylistics, while the slower, groovy parts are not far from the mood found on albums of CARPATHIAN FROST or TULUS. PENTHOS clearly put a lot of effort into crafting dynamic, richly atmospheric songs with catchy and memorable riffs. Most songs like “Dancing Dead” or “Thanatos” oscillate between stomping mid-tempo and fast paces making Erevos a captivating listen. Listeners won`t find any anxious attempts at innovation on Erevos instead the album presents a professional studio production of over 40 minutes of well-composed Black Metal in the traditional way.
