POWER SURGE is a new hard melodic metal band formed by Croatian singer Roko Nikolic and London based guitarist Srdjan Bilic, their music primarily evoking the late 1980s when bands were taking classic metal origins to the next step - whether ramping up the pace with faster technical riffing, introducing progressive twists, or adding a touch of AOR mystique. Their debut LP "Shadows Warning" will be released on 2nd May 2025 on FHM Records, with an exclusive presale at Keep It True festival on 25th April 2025.
After the swagger of the opening title track, “A Dream Into a Nightmare and Breathe New Life” kick up a relentless intensity. Side A concludes on the noir ballad “With the Dawning”, a musical journey of muscular riffs and 12 string acoustics. Side B takes the album to more melodic territory but that doesn’t stop the tempo peaking again with “No Turning Back”. The brooding “Calm Before the Storm” is the song that first put Power Surge on the map, harking back to the era of AOR tinged heavy metal. The band then nod to their Balkan roots with their cover of “Carry On” which was originally composed and released by Warriors on their 1984 LP, the first band from the region to get a North American record deal and were even scheduled to support Iron Maiden. POWER SURGE’s version features a guest appearance from Dejana (vocals) and Vlad (guitar) of Claymorean, who’s music and breakthrough personally inspired guitarist Srdjan to return to his traditional metal roots. The album closes with the melodic metal majesty of Last Man Standing and final burst of energy “Burnout”.
POWER SURGE formed in June 2024 and their first demos landed them a perfect launch opportunity - opening for 80s power metal legends Fifth Angel on their September European tour. They wasted no time in working up a set of material to perform and launched two singles in time for their live debut. Immediately after their first dates they received an album offer with FHM Records and an invitation to play the prestigious Keep It True Rising festival in 2025.
The members are no strangers to the European metal scene - Roko has performed direct support to bands like Whitesnake and Armored Saint, leads his own band Flesh and is a long term collaborator of Jelusick. Srdjan has spent most of his career rising through the ranks of UK metallers Primitai, most recently leading them to a double appearance at Bloodstock festival, European dates with Firewind and Enforcer. The lineup is completed by Srdjan’s regular partners in crime, guitarist Calvin Lever and bassist Radek Koval. Drum duties are handled by Milan “The Yeqy” Jejina, a highly sought after drummer on the festival and arena circuit in the balkans.
