Three decades ago this extraordinary band was formed. Together these daring guys set off on seven magnificent expeditions, which led them from the depths of the forest to the arctic circle. That's where these men are going to spend winter once more, in the pack ice to discover artefacts and stories. Explorers rather than musicians who take time with their stories and publications. This explains why the world had to wait an incredible 15 years for a sign of life. Unfortunately, no further details about any of the members are known. They only get together for joined expeditions but otherwise go their separate ways. This explains the air of mysticism which accompanies the mentioning of the name BERGTHRON. This is the end of the ongoing mysteries and secrets. This is their latest achievement in time to celebrate their 30th anniversary.
BERGTHRON state: "'Neu Asen Land' is most likely an album you'll not hear very often in the world of metal. Autarktis was a significant change at the time. We consciously moved away from the stereotypes of the genre. It was followed by various attempts of songs, some in the style of Autarktis, others more electronic, all of which we decided to bin of. Born from discontent, the question arose of how music would sound if produced entirely without outside influences, entirely born from within us. Asking these questions made us realise we needed a longer break to enable a fresh start. The idea: A ten year break!
A decade. An eternity to return to the source of our desire. We were aware that this was nearly impossible, probably doomed to fail. We started our new recording sessions refreshed and restored. Fuelled by juvenile enthusiasm, a new album was born without expectations, simply us trying to do what we wanted and craved.In a time when most metal offerings are expected to sound bigger and cleaner, are cut multiple times and assisted by AI supported songwriting and productions, we decided not to get sidetracked. We kept a lot of it natural, despite it not being mega accurate. We didn't chase traditional verse/chorus/bridge structures, maybe a little like the Neil Young of metal. Handmade! Happy to take a risk."
