DYNFARI from Iceland plays black metal influenced, heavily atmospheric music. "Myrkurs er þörf" is their fifth full-length - a chameleonic, labyrinthine mix of post-rock and black metal, thickly atmospheric, asbeautiful and inspiring as it is quietly sombre and menacing, as illuminating as it is sorrowful. Artwork by Metaztasis (Watain, Behemoth).
Since its formation as a duo in 2010 this now fully formed Icelandic band has made five albums. Armed with candlelight and incense, the band's hypnotizing live performances elevate all senses into another world. DYNFARI's lyrical themes deal with the philosophy of life, death, the universe, loss, hope and sorrow. Having explored more progressive soundscapes in their blend of post-rock and black metal in the most recent works, this album marks a return to more DIY, punch and attitude. An introspection on thoughts of suicide and selfdestruction, the essence of bleakness and suffering defeat from the shackles of your own mind, the album's direction is toward a darker, heavier side of the musical spectrum, expressing a violent refusal of merely becoming a means to an end.
