BARKASTH was formed in 2015 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. From its inception, the band's vision has been to express an uncompromising rejection of organized religion, with particular focus on Orthodox Christianity. BARKASTH's music is driven by contempt for religious institutions that manipulate faith, exploit the poor and the spiritually vulnerable, and build their wealth and authority upon deception. It is a condemnation of those who feast while others suffer—a reflection on hypocrisy, corruption, and spiritual decay.
This philosophy became the foundation of the band's debut full-length album, "Decaying" (2018). The record explores the collapse of faith, the corruption of religious power, and the inevitable moral decomposition hidden behind sacred symbols. The second album, "Hear My Void" (2019), shifted the focus inward. While preserving the band's bleak atmosphere, the album dives deep into the human mind, exploring its darkest corners, inner conflicts, fear, isolation, and the void that exists beyond belief. Rather than confronting external institutions, "Hear My Void" becomes a journey through psychological darkness, where despair, self-reflection and existential emptiness replace direct opposition. It marks a more introspective and atmospheric chapter in BARKASTH's evolution.
Following the release of "Hear My Void", BARKASTH entered a six-year period of silence. Behind the scenes, however, the project continued to evolve. This hiatus ultimately gave birth to a new chapter in the band's history, emerging with a completely renewed lineup while preserving the uncompromising vision that has defined Barkasth from the beginning.
The driving force and only constant member throughout every era of the band is Arkhonth, whose songwriting and artistic direction remain the core of BARKASTH's identity. For the newest chapter, the lineup was reinforced by Vlad of Drudkh, whose participation brought a new dimension to the band's sound and contributed to the creation of the "Silent Torment" (2026).
Today, BARKASTH stands as both a continuation and a rebirth—remaining faithful to its original philosophy while expanding its musical and lyrical horizons into darker, deeper and more personal territory.
